Things to do before publishing a BLOG post

Hi Oreos!💕😌 I’m back with another blogging tips post – today I’ll be sharing the things I do before publishing blog posts, and what you should as well😀

I hope this post helps you!💛Let’s get into it:

Proofread

Yes, this is the obvious thing you would do and everyone knows that, but I still think it’s essential to list it. I’ll admit, I definitely don’t proofread every single one of my posts, especially if I’m in a hurry to publish them.

But – proof reading is really important, just go over everything again, make sure all your images, articles are all there.

Preview

Something I always do after I’m finished with my blog posts is preview it. I do this so I can see what it looks like on the actual site, and also to see how my images & headlines show up.

This will help you determine if you’ll have to resize the pictures in your post, or make the text more readable.

Tags & Categories

I sometimes forget to do this… Tags play an important role in growing your blog.

Let’s say you’re writing a post on Blogging breaks – you could add tags such as “blog breaks”, “blogging advice” etc..  And the person on the other side of the screen is scrolling through their reader, looking for blogging tips. When they use that tag, your post (probably) will show up!

Interlinking

This is basically providing links to your other posts. They could be related to the post you’re writing, or they could be just a recommended read.

It also includes linking to another blog(s) if you used an idea that isn’t yours, be sure to give credit where credit’s due.

Add a Call To Action

A call to action is something like “Sign up for out newsletter now! (Insert sign up form pop up)” or “Follow my blog here”. This could be to generate traffic to your site, or to draw leads and conversations.

You can also ask questions at the end of your posts, in this case “What is one thing you do before publishing your posts?” As simple as that😄

Check if the post is complete

This is almost the same as proof reading, but I feel like it’s worth a mention. I’ve been in situations where I find random parts of my posts missing, it might be because I didn’t write it in, or I just didn’t save the draft where I left it off.

So make sure that doesn’t happen, and check if your post is complete!

Thank you so much for reading!💕 I hope this post is of help to you!

  1. My mom has ordered me to let her read my posts before I post them, so she normally proofreads it. And categories are important because then someone new can see the kinds of things you post and look for something certain on your site. I feel like categories are like general and tags are kind of more directly relevant. But I’m new to blogging… I might try interlinking and call to action! Thanks for the tips!!

  2. TBH, I don’t do a lot of these things.

    I do add tags though.
I don’t know how you’re so good at blogging! Honestly I’ve been blogging a lot longer than you but I feel like you know more than I do. Anyway, I guess I just really think you have a blogging talent. So keep it up!

    1. That’s alright, not all of the points mentioned are for everyone, I’m sure there’s a lot of things that other bloggers do before publishing their posts and I dont. (like promoting in social media)

  3. Great post, I fee like interlinking is great idea. I personally enjoying reading posts with reference links!!
Tags are very important and I have learnt that over time that tags help you widen your audience, its like hashtags on instagram😂
I feel like I dont proof read enough as its just such a boring job hahaha but its really embarrassing when I find typos in my own post after I publish themxD

  4. Before publishing a blog post, I sleep on it. I wait 12hrs+ before posting it and usually schedule it to be published the following day. It gives me time to think it over and make sure that I completed the things you listed 🙂

  5. Hmmm. I suppose I should proof read more often. Normally I remember tags and categories, though, which is good. Sometimes I use the preview if I’m not sure what it will look like, but oftentimes I just post it, and then look back on the post later and wonder why I didn’t proof read and spell check. haha
    Thanks for the tips!

  6. Wow, this was an ✨ educational✨ post! I normally proofread, preview and add categories before publishing but I rarely add a call to action per se. Lovely tips, Evin! I think interlinking is a fun way to make friends too!
